Substantive editing also involves going line-by-line through your writing to check for spelling, punctuation, grammar, consistency, and style. However, it also includes a more in-depth focus on each sentence and how it affects the text as a whole. It may involve significant changes, some copywriting, and even rewrites. This process will most likely be necessary if a text is in its early stages.
